If you’re holding out for one party/event this month….this is the one. Nero is Dubstep, but you don’t have to be a hardcore fan of the genre to dig this sound. So if you’re new to the Dubstep sound, or you want to introduce people to it, this is where you should be. Nobody understands Dubstep until you hear it at a party (just like DnB and Electro).
Those who know the sound of the wobble….know Nero. I don’t have to explain it at all. One of the best Dubstep producer/Djs I’ve ever heard.

Hip hop is getting good up in this town. I’m impressed….check this one out. There is more to come at Starlite, in terms of hip hop, in the near future.

Mixing that old school ragga sound (the roots of Dub) Subswara is back again @ Starlite Room. When I really miss the pure dub of Lee Scratch Perry, I’m happy to know Subswara is carrying that proverbial torch on. Sine!!

I really dig Subvert….I mean a lot! All of Subvert’s tracks are hard-ass dubstep. Some really heavy stuff. Check out the remix of Cranberries “Zombie”….off the MF hook!
Excision is like a whole other level of dirty bass heavy dubstep. You’ll have your angry/intense faces on for this….ARgghg!

The whole Opium for the Masses crew went out to the Future Sound of Breaks V3 party in Miami @ IO in 2004. We went with an open mind. This was a World Music Conference (WMC) after party showcasing where breakbeats (as a genre) might be headed. Florida is breakbeat central from Miami to Orlando….so of course this party was massive.
On the lineup were: DJ Icey, Simply Jeff, Jackal and Hyde, DJ Craze, Madame Mercury, Jen Lasher, Reid Speed, Donald Glaude (doing a breaks only set) and Freq Nasty.
The whole party centered around Freq Nasty!! His set was slammin!! There were several stages set-up throughout the night, but somehow everyone managed to vacate all but the main one for Freq Nasty’s set. Madame Mercury had a set to start on another stage during Freq Nasty’s set, but we danced together to those thundering beats until FN was done.
Freq Nasty is so impressive that other big name DJs come to watch him. In Madame Mercury’s case, it meant hearing his set first, then worrying about her own. I was floored. It was a great party.

I went to see Drop the Lime at the Pawn Shop almost a year ago today (here in Edmonton). It was a really sick show!! Unfortunately, there was a certain “trance party” the same day….
…..can you guess which one party ended up with a high attendance?
This year you’ll get the chance to see Drop the Lime….one more time. He is a true banger DJ, playing harder edged stuff. Mostly bass-heavy beats from Major Lazer to Jakwob to AC Slater, etc.

I like to think of Rusko as the Richard Humpty Vission of dubstep. Not because they sound at all alike, but they are both great stage DJs, playing for the crowd. They really get into the mix…and they mix tracks in quick succession. This is why Rusko sets the dance floor on fire. It’s what makes him famous here, and across the the pond.
